Disability Determination Services (DDS) makes disability and blindness determinations for the United States Social Security Administration on most Social Security Disability Insurance (SADIE) and Supplemental Security income (SSI) claims filed or reviewed in Kansas.
DDS also reviews the cases of individuals who already receive benefits, in order to determine if they continue to qualify for benefits; conducts hearings in cases where SADIE or SSI eligibility is found to have ceased; and makes Medicaid eligibility determinations for individuals who do not meet the financial requirements for SSI.
DDS refers claimants who could benefit from other services to the vocational rehabilitation program and to the program for children with special health care needs in the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
